Arab Games Exhibition

Demonstrating a chronological narrative of the Games, the exhibition will feature items from the games, including medals, posters, programs, films and interviews of athletes, photographs, and educational activities that inform visitors about the history of the Arab Games, which first took place in Alexandria, Egypt, back in 1953.

Louise Bourgeois: Conscious and Unconscious

Louise Bourgeois is one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Conscious and Unconscious is the first in-depth study of her work to be exhibited in the Middle East, and showcases 32 pieces spanning sculptures, installation works, gouaches, and fabric pieces dating from 1947 to 2009.

Gifts of the Sultan

21st March – 2nd June Museum of Islamic Art – temporary collection

Gifts of the Sultan: The Arts of Giving at the Islamic Courts is a major international exhibition exploring Islamic art through the universal act of gift giving. Divided between personal gifts, pious donations and diplomatic offerings, the exhibit features over 200 items from the eighth century to the present.

Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab

5th December 2011 – 26th May 2012 Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art Cai Guo-Qiang: Saraab showcases the artist’s diverse body of work, ranging from his signature gunpowder drawings to large-scale, site-specific installations. The exhibition features more than 50 works that meld the Middle and Far East, including 16 newly commissioned pieces, 30 recent works, and nine documentary videos.
